2012 COMPETITION

Screening 6 - 16th March 2012 in Sydney.
Traveling to over 16 national locations & overseas

The 18th WOW (World of Women) Film Festival presents works of Fiction, Documentary, Animation, DigiVodules and Student films of less than 35 minutes duration with key creative input by women from Australia and around the world.

Films over 35 minutes duration can be entered out of competition categories.

Presented by Women in Film and Television (WIFT) NSW, WOW is a unique showcase of films by women. In a screen culture dominated by stories told, WOW allowing for a different storytelling - giving perspectives of the world through women’s eyes.

WOW promotes and awards the talents of women filmmakers in many roles, with over $20,000 worth of awards
for best director, best writer, best cinematographer, best editor and best composer for eligible films.

Ideas and storytelling are paramount. Films reflect a range of production values from emerging and established filmmakers.

WOW welcomes works from every sector of the Australian & International women filmmaking community, particularly from Australian indigenous filmmakers and other under represented groups. WOW represents diversity of background and nationality.

WOW is a festival of discovery, celebration, debate, professional networks and an inspiration for new work.


Digi Media – Short form Content Competition 2012 – Vodules – under 4 min.

VOTE NOW FOR THE POPULAR CHOICE WINNER OF WOW’S 2012 VODULES FOR DIGI MEDIA.

Vodules are an accessible use of mobile technology and short form story telling content. They are produced for the “Small Screen” and posted via the World Wide digital distribution platform of YouTube.

Vodules can cross genre from
• Short doc’s
• Animation
• Short fiction
• Skits
• Music Videos
• but are Maximum length: 4 minutes. Maximum file size is 1 GB

WOW DigiVodules are sent to us as H.264, MPEG-2 or MPEG-4 files, in Native aspect ratio without letterboxing @ Resolution: 640x360 (16:9) or 480x360 (4:3) & Frames per second: 30 with Audio Format MP3 or AAC

DigiVodule entries should be clearly marked ‘DigiVodule’ when sent to the WOW Film Festival Postal Address on QUICKTIME on DVD or USBs.

Finalists are up loaded to our YouTube channel & most popular Vodule with the most hits wins our Vodule competition. A 2012 winner will also be selected by an industry professional.

SELECTED FILMS TO THE WOW FILM FESTIVAL PROGRAM WILL BE NOTIFIED BY EMAIL.
ALL SELECTED FILMS SHOULD THEN:

Email high quality jpeg stills for publicity & press kit if available

Post films by the due date to WOW Film Festival, PO Box 12, Potts Point NSW 1335

Please do not courier films as the office is not always attended. Please do not try to send film files apart from small DigiVodule files on line.

WOW cannot pay return freight unless by arrangement with filmmakers of selected films.

Films in competition must be sent as Quicktime .MOV file in Pro-Res HQ, Pro-Res or H.264 codec. Please talk to the Festival or Technical Director if you have any questions about this

The Aspect ration for films in competition should be 1920x1080 (HD) where possible. They must be submitted on an external hard drive, data DVD or USB.

The Festival may use extracts from films and stills for festival promotion and publicity.

Women in Film and Television (WIFT) NSW is committed to improving the status of women both on and off screen; supporting and advancing women working in the film, television and related digital industries.

We are a membership based non-profit organization. WIFT NSW is part of a global organization. Women in Film and Television International (WIFTI), which provides a foundation for global co-operation as well as a public voice representing and unifying our members worldwide.

CONDITIONS OF ENTRY

1. Film must either have a woman director, or, if it is directed by a man, must have a woman in at least TWO of these categories:

Producer or writer or editor or cinematographer or production designer / art director or central acting role is a woman.

2. Send 2 copies of each entry on DVD - PAL for previewing. DVD should be PAL set to Region 4 (Australia), Region 0 (Worldwide) or Region ALL. One film only per DVD.

3. Entries must be less than 35 minutes in duration.

4. All films must be in English or have English subtitles.

5. All films must have been completed after 1ST January 2010 and must not have previously been screened in WOW Film Festival.

6. Press material may be included on data DVD if you wish.

7. All entries must be sent postage paid to:

WOW Film Festival, PO Box 12, Potts Point, NSW 1335, Australia.

Please enclose a stamped self-addressed padded bag or Postpak if you want your preview DVD returned.

8. Submissions that arrive without the entry fee will not be considered for selection.

9. Selection is based on artistic merit and general audience appeal by an industry panel co-ordinated by WOW. We seek films for Australian premieres. However WOW will accept work that has been previously screened or broadcast.

10. Entries must be received by the FINAL deadline, 15th September 2011 (Withoutabox Entries-extended deadline 30th September, 2011).

All applicants will be notified of the outcome of their application by end November 2011.
