From the President:
Our Annual General Meeting 2008 drew a near-record crowd of 25 women to the Rex Centre in Potts Point on 25th June. New and long-time WIFT NSW members and a handful of visitors were presented with the accounts and the Treasurer and President’s reports. The members accepted the audited accounts for 2007 and heard about the Management Committee’s multiple achievements. The President, Treasurer and outgoing Committee answered many questions on WIFT NSW’s accounts and activities since January 2007. As President I especially thanked Treasurer Mary Cammarere and Vice-President Julia Avenell for the work they have done over the past four years. Both Mary and Julia resigned at this AGM. My thanks also go to the 2007/08 Committee, Alana Adye, Ana Tiwary, Helen Goritsas, Natalie Millar, Sil-Nyin Cameron and Stela Solar, along with Committee volunteer Heidi Tobin. The outgoing Committee then stood down and Caroline Verge, past Vice-President, presided over an election accompanied by vigorous debate from the floor.
New items about research on women’s participation in the screen industry are now available on our website on the About Us page. Still Not Half the Picture links to reports by Rosemary Curtis from the AFC and Marian Evans from the Victoria University of Wellington. These reports confirm for us WIFT NSW’s reason for being – to increase women’s participation in the industry and to increase the number and diversity of stories told by women. I urge you to read Rosemary and Marian’s contributions for yourself.
I welcome the new Management Committee to WIFT NSW (listed below) and we have already held two meetings. Together we plan to achieve extraordinary things by the 2009 AGM.
Lindy Monson President WIFT NSW
